One remarkable thing about Tetris is its close relationship to the DOS platform. If you look at the list of puzzle games, you will find that from 1995 on, Windows games by far outnumber the DOS games. Not so here. There were very few 16-bit Windows Tetris clones, and about half of them were spin-offs like Columns or Dr. Mario, not classic Tetris. While there were far more for 32-bit Windows, the development of DOS Tetris games continued right into the millennium.
